JOHN-DAVID VAN VALIN

Pastor JD VanValin and his wife Brianna are in their eighth year at First Church. JD grew up on the west side of Indianapolis (89-03), but from 2003-12 he lived in Michigan and Kentucky. In his downtime, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, playing sports, and playing music. Four-year-old Liam loves to talk, sing, build train tracks, and shoot hoops. Two-year-old Micah has a strong voice, loves to play with his toys and his brother. Colette, born December 2019, is an amazing sleeper.
JD is a graduate of Spring Arbor University with a B.A. in Psychology and Asbury Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity. He greatly enjoys being part of First Church as well as the Near Eastside Indianapolis community.

Phil is a pastor, educator, and musician who enjoys live music, reading and spending time with his family. He attended Moody Bible Institute and is a graduate of Briercrest College with a B.A. in Theology and Briercrest Seminary with an M.A. in Historical Theology.
Sarah was born in Wisconsin, but at a young age she moved with her family to Northern California to church plant. She grew up playing piano in her father's church, then went on to earn her Ph.D. in Music Theory and Composition from University of California, Davis.
Sarah and Philip were introduced by a friend and connected immediately through a mutual love of the church, music and hospitality. After marriage, they helped plant a Christian Reformed church in Northern California (Davis), where Sarah was the music director and Philip became a pastor. They have recently moved to Indianapolis and have five children.
